Canterbury Summers does not specialize in any particular skill or ability. We don’t have “theme days” and we don’t have specialized weeks. We focus on healthy, active routines and community. Our campers thrive on knowing what to expect each day. Social-emotional learning is built into our daily curriculum and frequently reinforced throughout the day. They will be exposed to a wide array of activities with a kind, supportive staff who believe in our mission and values.

We begin each day with the camper favorite, “Morning Rally,” where we set the tone for the day, introduce the “Word of the Day,” and kick off a fun camp-wide activity. After the rally, campers transition into 4 scheduled activities with their group and staff, including a snack break. Lunch is shared in Berry Hall with the whole camp. After lunch, campers have 30 minutes of quiet time in their classrooms. The afternoon brings the popular “Choice Time,” where campers can freely move between 4-5 activities at their leisure. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, water activities are offered (optional). Wednesday afternoons are dedicated to exciting Field Trips, with a different adventure each week.

Our staff consists mostly of Canterbury graduates, many of whom are college students or educators. We pride ourselves on the continuity of our staff year after year. While our facilities and curriculum are top-notch, it’s our dedicated, caring, and fun-loving staff that truly makes our camp special. Additionally, Canterbury offers volunteer opportunities for students who have completed 8th grade.

Camp hours are from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 pm
Before Care is available starting at 7:45 am
After Care is offered until 5:45 pm for families who need it.

There are a few items that campers need to bring daily to camp and some items on special days.
Daily: Sunscreen, 2 snacks, lunch, and a water bottle. (Canterbury is a nut-free campus)
Wednesdays: Canterbury Summers T-shirt (provided on the camper’s first day). Tuesdays/Thursdays (Water Day): Bathing suit and towel.

A weekly email will be sent out on Fridays at 5 pm before your camper’s scheduled week. This will include any special announcements and details about the weekly field trip, including location and carpool information.

No, just the opposite. Rather than focusing on specialized topics, the Canterbury Summers program gives campers time to play and experiment with activities and skills across our campus, from the monkey bars to canoeing. If we were to name a specialization, it would be our focus on teaching life skills with daily experiential activities that will help campers build character without even realizing it!
