Extended Day for PreK-8
Canterbury’s extended day program begins at the end of the academic day and is open until 6pm. The program provides opportunities for structured and free time, making friends with students in other grades, and participating in campus activities such as attending athletic events to cheer on the Cougars. Many students say that the highlight of their year is celebrating with friends of all ages at the end-of-year cookout.
PreK and kindergarten students meet in their own classroom, separate from older students. They start the afternoon with circle time where they share something about their day or a show-and-tell item they brought in, then have snacks and enjoy outdoor play (or indoor games in inclement weather), free play, and directed play at learning centers.
First-8th grade students begin the afternoon with supervised homework time in the library or a classroom. They also have snacks, play time, and free time. Extended day staff coordinate with the after school program, walking children to and from lessons or clubs and clinics.
The extended day program is available on conference days and school half-days. These longer days often include field trips to museums, the science center, or for activities such as bowling.
Fees are: $1,850 per year for five days a week, 3:15-6pm, and $1,150 a year for three days a week, 3:15-5pm. A drop-in rate of $30 a day is also available.
